On Friday, a working meeting with representatives of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine took place in Kyiv.
The meeting discussed the problems faced by Belarusians living in Ukraine, as many of them fled to Ukraine from Lukashenka's regime. The following topics were particularly emphasized: legalization of Belarusians in Ukraine, expired Belarusian passports, blocked bank accounts.
About the legal stay of Belarusians in Ukraine. Bill No. 9585 has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and has already been adopted in the first reading. This bill calls for settling the issue of legal stay of foreign citizens in Ukraine under martial law. The ombudsman's recommendations were included in this bill. We hope that with its adoption, the problems of many Belarusians in Ukraine will be solved.
The main result of this meeting is that, despite the martial law, Ukraine remains a state governed by the rule of law. Everyone who faces illegal actions and violation of their rights, independence from national and religious affiliation, can apply to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with a statement about the violation of their rights. All these statements will be reviewed and in case of violation, you can count on help in protecting your rights.
Information on how to file a complaint can be found on the website of the Ombudsman of Ukraine.
