Three years since the sentencing of Maria Kolesnikova and Maksim Znak

On September 6, 2021, the Belarusian regime sentenced oppositionists Maria Kolesnikova and Maksim Znak. The trial was held in closed session, where Judge Sergei Yepikhov sentenced Kolesnikova to 11 years in prison and Znak to 10 years.

The oppositionists were found guilty under three articles of the Criminal Code of Belarus: conspiracy to seize power, calls for actions aimed at harming national security, and the creation or leadership of an extremist group.

Currently, Maria Kolesnikova is being held in isolation in the Gomel Women's Colony without communication with the outside world. For more than a year and a half, she has been held in a cell-type facility and periodically placed in an isolation ward.

Lawyer Maksym Znak has also been in isolation since February 2023. He has already written three books in prison. One of them, “Zekameron”, received book awards and participated in numerous fairs dedicated to the struggle of the Belarusian people for freedom.
